Trademark Law

A trademark is a word, phrase, symbol, and/or design that identifies and distinguishes the source of goods from one party to another. Similarly, a service mark is a word, phrase, symbol, and/or design that identifies and distinguishes the source of a service rather than goods.

The Trademarks Registry (TMR) is a key division of the Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan (IPO-Pakistan), responsible for the registration of trade and service marks under the Trademarks Ordinance, 2001. As a federal government body, TMR operates within the geographical boundaries of Pakistan. It functions as a civil court, and its decisions can be appealed in the provincial High Courts.
