Copyright Law
In Pakistan, copyright law is governed by the Copyright Ordinance 1962, as amended by the Copyright (Amendment) Ordinance, 2000. Copyright provides creators of artistic or literary works, or works that convey information or ideas, with the exclusive right to control how their work is used. The purpose of copyright is to encourage the advancement of knowledge by offering creators an economic incentive to produce new works.
Copyright covers the following types of creative works:
Literary Works: Includes books, magazines, journals, lectures, dramas, novels, computer programs/software, and compilations of data.
Artistic Works: Encompasses paintings, maps, photographs, drawings, charts, calligraphies, sculptures, architectural works, label designs, logos, monograms, and similar creations.
Cinematographic Works: Covers movies, audiovisual works, documentaries, etc.
Sound Recordings: Includes sound recordings, musical works, and similar materials.
